Utah Child Support Lawyer

Unless parental rights are terminated, Utah law requires both parents to contribute to the support of their children. The law provides for basic child support, medical care and insurance premiums, and child care expenses. How these costs are divided between the parents is determined by the relative incomes of the parents, as estimated by the state child support guidelines. Also included in the estimate of child support are the number of overnights, the number of other children in the mother and father’s households, and the amount of alimony paid and received. While judges have the authority to disagree with the child support guidelines, in practice they are followed fairly rigidly.  Whether you are going through a divorce, need a determination of paternity with an award of child support, or need to have a prior award modified, we have the experience to get it done right for you.
